A clash between Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Burma/Myanmar Army troops on December 13 near Nam San Town, resulted in four dead and seven wounded on the Burma Army side. There was no casualty on the TNLA side, according to PSLF/TNLA News and Information Department.

The TNLA troops were from Mobile 101 Battalion, while the Burma Army troops were from LIB 502. The latter were returning from Pan Ram Village after destroying bill boards bearing Drug Eradication Order set up by the TNLA. Burma Army troops had destroyed similar bill boards erected by the TNLA in Jongay Village also the week before.

Nam San Town is the capital of the Ta’ang (Palaung) Nationality self-administered area established by U Thein Sein government. Brigadier Gen. Aung Zaw Oo of MOC (1), with its base in Kyaukme Town, has set up an office in Nam San Town to direct the military operations against the TNLA resistance forces. Burma Army forces have increased to 1,500 within this month with about 500 troops operating regularly in areas around Nam San Town, PSLF/TNLA News and Information Department reports.

While meeting with Lt. Gen. Myint Soe of the Burma Army, UNFC leaders had urged for cessation of military offensives and building new military camps in the ethnic nationality areas. Nevertheless, Burma Army troops are continually increasing their presence in the areas of the ethnic nationalities.
