The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) says that Burmese fighter jets conducted air strikes against its positions in Myitkyina District this morning.
According to KIA spokesperson Naw Bu, the Kachin rebels’ frontline outpost in Waingmaw Township was attacked by two fighter jets as Burmese ground troops simultaneously launched artillery strikes.
“Our hillside outpost in Ingkhambum came under attack by Tatmadaw
The outposts involved are located between two of Kachins largest towns: Bhamo and state capital Myitkyina, close to the Chinese border.
In a statement on 8 October, the KIA said an increase in Burmese government forces’ aggression while at the same time hosting peace talks indicates the Burmese military’s innate unwillingness to resolve ethnic issues via political dialogue.
