The township judge has decided on September 3 to continue the trial of the three Kachin youths, who led a protest to free the trapped residents in the Kachin conflict area, after finding them guilty.
After examining the plaintiff, Lt-Col Myo Min Oo from the Tatmadaw’s Northern Command, and three witnesses, a motion to continue was submitted to the court on August 27.
Daw Nan Pu, one of the defendants, said setting down such kind of verdict after hearing the irrelevant testimonies of the plaintiff witnesses can make injustice more powerful.
“Three out of four witnesses from their side have been examined. These witnesses don’t know us and their testimonies were irrelevant to the charge. Also, the plaintiff Lt-Col said he didn’t know about the IDPs being trapped in the jungle for around a month. Although 14 court hearings have been held, the charge was filed again today. We will try harder since injustice has become more powerful.”
The three defendants will be examined on Thursday and their witnesses will also be examined.
