Chin residents who are taking shelter at other villages after fleeing from their villages in Paletwa Township, Chin State are in need of assistance especially after schools start, Ko Kyaw Aung from Paletwa Township Social Welfare Team said.

“They (the children) have to attend schools in the villages where they are taking refuge. The parents have to struggle more in order for their children to attend school. There aren’t many problems

[for students] attending primary schools. It’s a challenge for the parents to enroll the students in middle schools and high schools,” said Ko Kyaw Aung, secretary of Paletwa Township Social Welfare Team.

A total of 334 people from 67 households in Kon Pyin Village have fled to Shin Laik Wa Village while 70 people from 15 households in Pi Taung Village have fled to Mee Zar Village and 71 people from 16 households in Ku Chaung Phyar Village have fled to Zin Baung Pyin Village due to the clashes between the Arakan Army and the Tatmadaw in Paletwa Township.

According to statistics from Paletwa Township Social Welfare Team, there are 61 primary school students, 29 middle school students, and seven high school students among the internally displaced persons from Kon Pyin Village. Pi Taung IDPs have 17 students and Ku Chaung Phyar IDPs have 20 students.

“They (the IDPs) aren’t just sitting around [and do nothing]. They are trying to find jobs. But, it’s very difficult for them because it’s not their areas. The donations from the donors aren’t certain such as in May and June so this creates more difficulties for them,” said Ko Kyaw Aung.

Although the Chin State government is providing aids for the IDPs, it has not provided separate aids for the students, according to Pi Taung Village IDP teacher U Kyaw San.

“The state government hasn’t given separate aids for the students. Rice has been donated for 15 households,” he added.
