Karen National Union Statement on Military Activities by Government Tatmadaw (Army) and BGF Forces in Mae Thawaw Region in Contact with Pa-an and Papun Districts
- The Karen National Union (KNU) has signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement with the Union of Myanmar Government and has given priority to the peace processes and has been undertaking the realization of them with the Union Government, including the Tatmadaw.
- While undertaking the realization, as the military activities by forces of the government Tatmadaw and the Border Guard Force (BGF), and battles are taking place in the region of Mae Thawaw, which is in contact with Pa-an and Papun Districts of the KNU, the peace building process undertaken by the KNU and the government could be misunderstood by the Karen masses and could adversely affect trust. The KNU is much concerned about activities that could cause misunderstanding among the masses and the rise of problems affecting interest of the people and the peace process.
- Military activities by the government Tatmadaw and the BGF, at this time, have caused worry among masses in the Mae Thawaw region in Karen State, much miseries and destruction of stability and peace in the region.
- For that reason, we protest military activities by government Tatmadaw and the BGF forces in Mae Thawaw region, which is in contact with Pa-an and Papun Districts of the KNU, and demand stopping of the ongoing conflicts.
