On this New Year Day of the 1st of Thalay month 2757 (K.E.), we are joyous, and the of the Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) General Headquarters wishes the Karen national elders, officers, and men of the Karen armed forces, teachers, brothers and sisters, colleagues and every Karen national to have success, life security, unity, harmony and progress.

The recognition of Karen New Year Day is important for the entire Karen people. It presents, in a way, the importance of the character, integrity, and culture of the entire Karen people. Having Karen New Year Day, demonstrates precisely that the Karen are a national people on the planet Earth. Just as the other national peoples have leadership, administrators, defense organizations and civil communities, we should also do as well

As everyone of us is a member of the Karen nation, we must be proud of being Karen. If we do no love our nation and are not proud of being Karen, who would be proud of us? As we a nation of notable magnitude on earth and have spread to various countries nowadays, we are a blessed nationality. As our ancestors have said, “Children of Karen mothers shall become eminent, because of God’s greatness,” we sincerely believe that one day, the Karen people shall be recognized and esteemed in various places of the world. There is no reason for us to feel pessimistic. The situation shall improve for us progressively. Let us in our own corners work with unity, until we regain our freedom. Our wise forefathers have said, “Let us, brothers and sisters hold hands together, it is more valuable than gold”. Since we are being Karen, let us support, safeguard and love one another, in the coming days and months of the New Year.

I sincerely believe that if we have unity, if we do not do the enemy’s bidding and destroy one another, we can never be ruined. Let us make a resolution to reform the morality of our people and uplift our political struggle together, for the victory of our people, in the coming months of the New Year. If we are afraid, the enemy will become daring, and we are brave the enemy will become shy. We have no reason to fear the enemy. May the Karen New Year bring unity, victory, and freedom for the entire Karen nation.
